Course Fees – Course tuition £1,800 over 2 years plus £40 admin fee for the certificate. Payable on week 1 or payments can be made in 11 instalments each year throughout the course – first payment of £100 plus £40 admin followed by 20 payments of £85 per month. Please note fess are non refundable.

The City & Guilds Accredited course at Intermediate level is a 2 year course following on from the Foundation in Upholstery or the equivalent. The 2 year syllabus includes:

Objective 1 – This will build on and consolidate your knowledge and understanding of the design concepts within colour, line, shape, texture and form. You will produce a design folio or sketchbook with complex designs and compositions.

Objective 2 – This will consolidate your upholstery skills and experience through sampling more advanced techniques and the use of a wider range of fabrics. Samples are related to the design elements.

Objective 3 – An item of your choice incorporating the Van Dyke join.
 This item will be a personal response to the design theme line & mark making.

Objective 4 – Upholstered item of your choice.

Developed from experimental sampling of techniques or materials

Objective 5 – Stuff over seat with springs.

Working from a brief this will be produced considering timescale and budget

Objective 6 – Upholstered item of your choice.

This will be inspired by the work of a designer either contemporary or historical or from another culture.

All items must be presented with a portfolio of supporting work recording the development, making and evaluation of sampling and final item. This can be presented in a sketch book, portfolio or digitally produced.


Course Details

Programmes are available in the comfort of your own home using the Zoom platform on a Thursday evening at 7pm UK.

Using a combination of live demonstrations and video tuition participants will get the information they need to produce their own unique item. The regular meetings will give the participants the opportunity to be a part of a community with the same goals in mind, to show and tell their work, to ask questions, to learn the skills needed to move on to the next task at their own pace. 1:1 tutorials are also included in the programme.
