Annual course tuition £900. Certificate Fee is £30 (payable upon completion of course). Payable on week 1 or payments can be made in 11 instalments throughout the course (please see Terms & Conditions).
The syllabus includes:
Outcome 1 – Design is common for all certificates at this level. It introduces you to the way in which design ideas develop so that you can take them forward into your chosen specialism to make a truly unique piece.
Outcome 2 – Craft is a specific unit for the specialism you have chosen to study. Details of what you have to produce as evidence are shown below. You will gain skills in the practice of upholstery and in the knowledge of materials, techniques and processes applicable to this level of work.
A deep buttoned item with modern techniques.
This item can be a stool, ottoman box or a headboard covered using modern upholstery techniques and deep buttoning. The stool will have hand finished legs and the ottoman must be covered and padded inside and out.
A traditional piece with individual design work.
A drop-in seat, traditionally stuffed, for a dining chair.
A piece of artwork must be created and applied to the seat taken from the design for craft work covered during the course.
As part of the programme you should be aware of current trends in the craft. You will also research the work of designer makers both contemporary and historical to develop your understanding of your specialism. This may be done through the internet, shop visits or if possible through museum or gallery exhibitions.
Courses available in the comfort of your own home using the Zoom platform.
Zoom dates to follow.
Using a combination of live demonstrations and video tuition participants will get the information they need to produce their own unique item. The monthly meetings will give the participants the opportunity to be a part of a community with the same goals in mind, to show and tell their work, to ask questions, to learn the skills needed to move on to the next task at their own pace.
